INFiLED GeminiLED Powers Wayfinding at Shenzhen North Railway Station

DOOH GeminiLED Series Indoor

Overview

Shenzhen North Railway Station is a major transport interchange where high-speed rail and metro routes converge. Throughout the day, passengers move between transfer corridors, exits and connecting services, often making their next route choice while already in motion.

To bring digital guidance closer to these decision points, INFiLED displays were deployed across the station, with installation completed in June 2026. Six INFiLED GeminiLED P2.5 dual-sided displays serve key bidirectional locations, complemented by five single-sided displays at other circulation points. The layout follows a clear principle: the direction of information follows the direction of passenger movement.

Passenger Flow Shapes the Wayfinding Strategy

With annual passenger arrivals and departures exceeding 126 million, movement through Shenzhen North Railway Station is continuous and multidirectional. During busy periods, metro passengers transfer towards high-speed rail, arriving rail passengers disperse towards onward connections, and different flows meet around exits, escalators and interchange routes.

For digital guidance, visibility therefore starts with placement and orientation. Directional arrows, destinations and transfer information need to enter the passenger’s field of view before the next turn or route change.

The station’s display layout responds to these movement patterns. At locations approached from opposite directions, information faces both passenger flows, while other circulation points use display forms suited to their viewing conditions.

As routes divide, connect and change, guidance appears where the next decision is made.

INFiLED GeminiLED Brings Two-Way Guidance to Key Decision Points

At the bidirectional nodes, GeminiLED brings two independently controlled display faces into one suspended structure. Passengers approaching from either direction can look up and find wayfinding information facing their path of travel.

The six GeminiLED installations use the P2.5 configuration. At just 27 mm thickness, the dual-sided cabinets maintain a slim presence above the passenger flow, preserving the open visual character of the station while keeping information visible from both approaches.

Several aspects of the GeminiLED design are particularly relevant to this setting:

  • Independent dual-side control allows content and brightness to be managed separately on each face. One suspended display therefore serves two directions, with each side responding to its own viewing orientation and surrounding light.
  • A slim, lightweight structure combines two display surfaces within one compact fixture. INFiLED GeminiLED’s magnesium-alloy die-cast architecture reduces load on overhead mounting points while keeping the installation visually restrained within the station interior.
  • Clear visibility in motion supports passengers approaching from different angles. MIP technology maintains consistent colour and brightness over wide viewing angles, while brightness of up to 1,500 nits supports clear wayfinding in bright indoor environments.

For long-term operation, key components including power, HUB boards and receiving cards are accessible from one designated service side, creating a practical maintenance path for suspended installations. EMC Class B compliance also suits the electronically dense environment of a transport hub, where display systems operate alongside public-address, security and other information infrastructure.

Suspended above the moving crowd, the display keeps directional information visible from both approaches while maintaining a compact overhead presence.

Guidance Extends Across More Complex Circulation Nodes

Not every point within the station has the same movement pattern. Transfer junctions, entrances and other transition areas introduce additional approach directions and call for different display arrangements.

Five additional single-sided INFiLED displays extend digital guidance across other circulation points. At one location approached from several directions, a four-sided wayfinding structure keeps information visible from multiple sides.

Across the station, the display forms vary, but the underlying approach remains consistent – information is positioned around how passengers approach, move and make route decisions.

For a transport hub, effective digital wayfinding depends on the relationship between information, viewing direction and passenger movement. At Shenzhen North Railway Station, INFiLED GeminiLED brings two-way guidance into a slim overhead format, while complementary display forms extend that logic across other circulation points.

The project shows how digital display can become part of the passenger journey itself – present where decisions are made, visible along the direction of travel and integrated naturally into the public space. For INFiLED, this approach continues to shape display solutions for modern transportation environments.
