What You Should Look for in Control Room Video Walls

16.04.2025

The control room sector faces challenges unlike any other.

Managing vast data sets from multiple sources can overwhelm operators if they’re not clearly displayed. Outdated technology that lacks compatibility with modern systems, hindering collaboration and halting workflows. Unreliable power supply designs that result in unforeseen downtime.

Any of this sound familiar?

If you’re nodding your head, you’re likely in the market for a display solution that’s strong enough to handle these demands. Whether you’re designing a control room video wall for a corporate space, a security control room, or a traffic control hub, the right display choice is critical for operational success.

But how do you choose, especially when every manufacturer claims to have the latest and greatest product?

Here you will find a series of questions you should ask yourself when looking for a control room LED solution. Alongside this, we’ll present some information about the WV series and how it measures up against the challenges of your unique control room environment.

Does the Display Solution Account for 24/7 Uptime?

As control rooms operate around the clock, any downtime disrupts critical workflow. While your control room video wall must be designed for continuous operation, that shouldn’t come at the cost of performance.

After all, a lack of visual clarity can lead to operator fatigue, and that’s not an outcome you want in a space where real-time observation is critical.

INFiLED’s WV series melds the worlds of reliability and clear visuals, making it really valuable for applications like emergency control room video wall systems.

The external power supply system takes care of any problems around interrupted operation. It’s smartly done by minimising electromagnetic interference, and reducing heat generation and noise (there are no internal fans, plus the design allows you to locate power supplies up to 100 metres away from the display panels).

It comes as no surprise then that at the recent ISE 2025 conference (a global tech show for the systems integration and AV industries), we garnered plenty of positive feedback from AV industry professionals about how quiet and cool-to-touch the WV series is, compared to traditional LCDs or LFD (Large Format Display) which are usually found in various control rooms such as traffic control hubs, hospitals etc.

Thankfully, none of this comes at the expense of visual clarity. You’ll benefit from:

  • High 3,840Hz refresh rate

Provides smooth visuals with deep blacks and vibrant colours, enhancing visibility across all types of content

  • Contrast ratio of 10,000:1

Ensuring sharp images even during extended use

  • Brightness levels up to 1,000 nits

Recommended settings for control rooms is between 500-1000nits

  • Fine pixel pitches

Delivers exceptional detail for close-quarter monitoring

  • 14-bit+ grayscale capacity (expandable up to 24-bit+)

If your control room operators need to track multiple data streams simultaneously, this ensures they can detect subtle differences

Is the LED System Easy to Install and Maintain?

Space constraints are a control room reality. If it’s yours, it’s a good move to opt for a control room video wall that has a slim profile and is lightweight.

You’ll also want to ensure it has in-built flexibility – while it’s great for customising your control room design, it also means that if components need replacing, it happens without dismantling the entire system.

How does the WV series measure up on these fronts?

It has an ultra-slim design at just 41mm thick (49mm when wall-mounted) with modular flexibility. In practice, this means each cabinet can be divided into two half-size units by unscrewing their connections, allowing for adaptable configurations.

Key components – such as the driver boards and receiving cards – can be accessed from either side of the display for quick maintenance.

Plus cabinets have magnets to help you get the alignment right during installation, speeding up setup.

Then there’s the external power supply system; in the unlikely event of a power supply failing, you can quickly replace it without unmounting your entire control room video wall.

Is Control Room Video Wall Compatible With Your Existing Infrastructure?

Downtime is a no-go in the control room space, so when choosing a new system, you want the transition to be as seamless as possible.

That’s why it’s important to choose an LED video wall that integrates with your existing technology – look for things like compatibility with standard mounting systems and input sources, as well as versatile playback methods.

Infiled

The WV Series supports multiple input formats—including DVI, HDMI, DP, Mini DP and SDI—making it compatible with most video processors on the market.

You can playback via USB, through intelligent control via its app or with the optional remote control kit. Each product within the series has also been purposefully designed to work with commonly used cantilever racks or wall mounts, simplifying upgrades from older displays.

Does It Have Optional Features?

While you might know what you need right now, the future is an unpredictable place. Your control room needs can change as fast as Superman does out of his suit!

As John Harald Grønningen from Cyviz shared on our INFiLED & Friends stage during ISE 2025, scalability should be a top priority when designing a future-ready control room.

This is why it’s good to think about your control room design at a broader level, carefully considering what scenarios could impact it down the track. When choosing an LED video wall, you can then investigate what add-on features it may have to extend its functionality.

Examples include environmental monitoring where sensors can track smoke, temperature and humidity levels within your space, and interactive touchscreens that give your team the opportunity to get hands-on with their data, engaging with it intuitively.
